International Field Trip 2017

Under the supervision of Claudia Szivatz-Spatt, 15 students from the aster’s program "Leadership in Tourism" explored the three Baltic States during their international field trip. The overall objective was to gain as many new and interesting impressions as possible of this up-and-coming destination.
The journey started in Tallinn, the medieval capital of Estonia, went on to Riga, the architectural pearl of Latvia, and continued to Vilnius, the highly traditional capital of Lithuania. The unique landscape, the interesting buildings as well as the multifaceted districts left a lasting impression on the students. In addition to the cultural and natural resources, the participants were introduced to the opportunities and challenges of the local gastronomy and hospitality industry. Expert talks with the most important representatives of the local tourism development provided interesting background information and strategic insights.

The most exciting destinations during the field trip included the following:

• Lahemaa National Park, Estonia’s biggest National Park
• Pärnu – the summer capital of Estonia
• NOA restaurant – voted the best restaurant in Estonia
• Hotel Pullman Riga Old Town*****
• Riga Central Market
• Hill of Crosses - a place of pilgrimage, characterized by a Catholic and touristic background
• Comfort Hotel Rock'n'Roll (Vilnius)
• Gauja National Park, Latvia’s oldest and biggest National Park
• Castle of Turaida, the largest museum reserve in Latvia

During these seven memorable and unique days in the Baltic countries, the students were able to gain many new experiences and impressions that will surely shape their professional lives.
